EHEC keeps Europe in suspense – traceability has to be a matter of course.

With more than a thousand people falling ill and an increasing number of deaths – all caused by the perilous EHEC pathogen, a strain of the intestinal bacteria Escherichia Coli – alarm is mounting in Germany, and concern is spreading to the whole of Europe.

Stores throughout Europe are hastily taking Spanish cucumbers, tomatoes and aubergines off their shelves; however, authorities are still uncertain of the origin of the contaminated vegetables. Obviously full traceability of these products has proven to be impossible.
