Sustainable Agro-Energy Project on behalf of Soil & Energy gGmbH ..::

Project target: Development of a decentralised energy supply from biomass and biogas from agroforestry products in cooperation with an organic cotton smallholder organisation. Set-up of a regional competence centre for sustainable energy- and land use (Initiator, Network, Social Business Models).

The combination of organic food production with renewable energy from biomass leads to benefits both for the people and the environment. The rural population gets access to decentralized renewable energy and herewith to better living conditions. Agroforestry elements, like oilseed producing trees, increase the biodiversity of otherwise species-poor land use systems, reduce the risks of soil erosion and flooding, and, as provider of both edible oil and biomass and biogas energy, they offer multiple direct uses.

Achievements:

2009: 27,500 trees planted on plot borders
2010: > 75,000 trees planted on plot borders and block plantation

2011: Establishment of an Agro-Processing Centre and the foundation stone laying ceremony for a
Community Centre.
